I can’t tell if me being unable to suspend my disbelief over Rebecca climbing onto a boat with a total stranger after losing her phone in a city where nobody knows where she is and taking a shower and drinking a drink that says “not drugged :)” says more about my anxiety, or just the state of being a woman.
Like, this was an episode full of ridiculousness and dreams and I *know* this storyline was an allegory and supposed to be about Rebecca having a night free from expectations and rediscovering intimacy… but I could not shake the ick.
And I knew it wasn’t going to go in a bad direction? I knew this show wasn’t going to do that to me, so I wasn’t nervous for Rebecca. It was just that I was immediately made aware that this would be a *bad situation* in real life. And it made me uncomfortable. I disconnected from the storyline.
Because in an episode where the team had a massive pillow fight in a hotel lobby, and Ted had a drug-induced dream about triangles that led to a coaching epiphany, the scene where a woman feels totally safe with a man she just met is somehow the hardest thing to believe.

we forgot to teach your boyfriend media literacy and he completely misunderstood all the themes and narratives. yeah the underlying message too. he got tricked into believing in-universe propaganda and is writing a longpost about it now sorry
